“The condom broke.” “I missed a pill.” “We were caught up in the moment and didn't use protection.” The list of scenarios is
endless. Emergency Contraception (EC) is a second chance to prevent an
unintended pregnancy. Teens under 18 can access EC, but it requires a prescription. You can get a
prescription from: Ø
Your
physician Ø
A
Planned Parenthood health center (click
here for a location near you) Ø
The
Emma Goldman Clinic in Both
Planned Parenthood and the Emma Goldman Clinic provide confidential birth
control services and counseling. If you
need to visit a pharmacy, click here
to see how your pharmacy responded to the Project Pharmacy survey and
to find the nearest pharmacy that stocks EC. Parental
permission is not required for minors to obtain a prescription for EC;
however, we do encourage you to have a conversation with your parents or a
trusted adult about your need for birth control. It’s important that your health and well-being be at
the center of the conversation. Some individual health care providers may
require parental permission. For
tips on how to begin a conversation with an adult, please see the link
below. Although this web site
focuses on teens and parents talking about a pregnancy, the tips will
provide guidance for you on a conversation regarding preventing pregnancy
through the use of EC.
